I’m 18 now and have never told anyone about that apart from a friend who said I should have called the police as I was obviously underage and it was paedophilia.

New submission from Helen
When I was 13, I was coming home from school one day in my school uniform and got on a bus as I usually did which would take me nearly directly all the way home. I got on, sat at the very back by the window and started reading as it was about a twenty minute bus ride. A young man, maybe around 20, with ginger hair got on a few stops after me and immediately made a beeline for the seat right next to me at the back. I could see him looking at my face and eyeing me up, making me feel uncomfortable but just left it and figured he’d get off soon. He didn’t. He started to inch his hand closer to my leg and then began to stroke my thigh and knee. I was incredibly uncomfortable by this point but didn’t say anything because I would be too embarrassed to admit anything. I stood up to move away from him but I was trapped by the seat at the back and a woman standing up in the aisle. He then grabbed my arse as I was now trapped standing in front of him and stroked it, trying even to pull my tights down. I’d had enough by that point, shoved the woman in front out the way and ran off the bus about ten stops too early. I cried when I got home. I’m 18 now and have never told anyone about that apart from a friend who said I should have called the police as I was obviously underage and it was paedophilia. I just laughed it off but it has always upset me and I would hate now to think of any girl like me at that age experiencing something similar.

I've got your back!

Helen, I’m so sorry to hear you had to suffer such an awful experience, and so young. This man was obviously taking advantage of the fact that as a 13 year old he could intimidate you. It was an awful abuse of power.

Please know that you’re never alone in this, and it is never too late to go to the police. Even if they never find him, it may help to give you closure to report it and will contribute to enabling the police to build an accurate picture.

Most importantly though, you must do what feels right, and if that’s nothing, then that’s ok. By all means get in touch if you want to talk more or are after any advice, we’d be more than happy to help out in any way we can.
